Tony Brown's Journal Comes To OCTT!

(Washington, DC) The Office of Cable Television and Telecommunications (OCTT) beginning August 2, 2006 will serve as the new production facility for the Tony Brown's Journal show. Tony Brown's Journal, the longest-running public-affairs series on PBS, features guest discussions, commentaries and documentaries pertaining to issues of importance to diverse racial groups in America.

"This partnership is a part of Mayor Anthony A. Williams' business development initiative that benefits District residents, while creating jobs, internships and improving OCTT's overall operations," said Executive Director, James D. Brown Jr. "We are excited and eager to build on this and other partnerships." Through OCTT's business development initiative, OCTT will offer production and post production services to District of Columbia residents, as well as, industry professionals, private television organizations, academic institutions and other third party organizations.

OCTT's will provide Tony Brown's Journal, as well as future clients, with a state-of-the-art studio production facilities, editing suites, graphic design software, duplication equipment, audio recording equipment and a fully operational mobile production truck. OCTT is creating an environment where potential customers can capture the quality and nature of OCTT's capabilities and be assured that they can effectively realize their media goals.

Most significantly, OCTT's business development initiative will generate revenue from OCTT's capabilities without increasing costs or affecting OCTT's primary missions of regulation and programming. Revenue generated by the business development initiative will go to the District's General Fund, as well as, reinvestment into OCTT's infrastructure.

Tony Brown's Journal was selected by the New York Daily News as one of the top 10 television shows of all time that presents positive Black images. The series was the only current program ranked in the top 10. The production has also received a nomination for an NAACP Image Award for "Outstanding News, Talk or Information Series/Special.". Tony Brown was inducted into the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences' prestigious Silver Circle. With this honor, he joins such television icons as Walter Cronkite who "have made enduring contributions to the vitality of the television industry and set the highest standards of achievement for all to emulate."

OCTT is the District Government Agency that manages the District's Government Access Channel's City Cable 16 and City Cable 13. The mission of City Cable 16 is to provide information regarding the many programs, services and opportunities made available by the District of Columbia Government. The mission of City Cable 13 is to provide gavel-to-gavel coverage of the live and recorded activities of the DC City Council and its various committees. Together these two channels are intended to provide District of Columbia residents access to the activities and processes of their government.
