OCT TV-16 To Air 2007 Gold & Silver Circle
Ceremony
(Washington,
DC) On Saturday, November 17, 2007 at 8:00 pm the District of Columbia
Office of Cable Television (OCT) will present the 2007 Gold &
Silver Circle Ceremony on TV-16. Additionally, OCT will offer a
"live" video stream of the awards ceremony on its' website
www.oct.dc.gov, enabling real-time viewing of the program by those
living outside of the District. OCT will also make the 2007 Gold
& Silver Circle Ceremony available for on-demand viewing on
its' website.
Produced by
the National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter of the National Academy
of Television Arts and Sciences (the "Emmys"), the 2007
Gold & Silver Circle Ceremony included many of Washington's
most influential and notable broadcast professionals - gathered
together on Saturday, November 3, 2007 at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel
in Washington, DC - to witness the induction of and celebrate the
career achievements of the evening's honorees.
Gold Circle
honorees include Joseph "Tex" Gathings, Retired Professor
- University of the District of Columbia; Bruce Morton, Retired
National Correspondent - CNN; and Max Schindler, Sr., NBC News.
Silver Circle
honorees include Samara Martin Ewing, WUSA 9; Pege Gilgannon, WJLA
TV; Pat Lawson Muse, WRC/NBC4; John Palmer, Retirement Living Television;
Sue Richmond, WETA; Murray Schweitzer, WRC/NBC4; and Doug Wilkes,
WTTG.
The Gold Circle
honors were established in 2004 by the National Academy of Television
Arts and Sciences to honor individuals devoting 50 years or more
to the broadcasting industry. The Silver Circle honors were established
in 1987 to honor individuals devoting 25 years or more to the broadcasting
industry.
OCT is the District
Government Agency responsible for regulating cable television in
the District, as well as the administration of the District's Government
Access Channels TV-16 and TV-13 and the District's Education Access
Channel DSTV. The mission of TV-16 is to provide information regarding
the many programs, services and opportunities made available by
the District of Columbia Government. The mission of TV-13 is to
provide gavel-to-gavel coverage of the live and recorded activities
of the DC City Council and its various committees. The mission of
DSTV is to complement and reinforce the efforts of the District
of Columbia Public Schools Chancellor and the State Superintendent
of Education to achieve improved student learning in every classroom,
in every school, in every community; and, to ensure that all students
are fully prepared for life after high school. Together these three
channels are intended to provide District of Columbia residents
access to the activities and processes of their government and public
school system.
