OCT to Air Abe Pollin City Title Basketball Games on the District Knowledge Network (DKN)

Washington, DC The District of Columbia Office of Cable Television (OCT) will televise the Abe Pollin City Title Games on the District Knowledge Network (DKN). The girls' game will air on Tuesday, March 16 at 7pm and the boys' game will air on Wednesday, March 17 at 7pm. Both games will be re-broadcast on Saturday, March 20 at 12pm and 7pm. Participating teams will include the H.D. Woodson Lady Warriors and the Ballou Knights, victors from the DC Interscholastic Athletic Association (DCIAA), taking on the Elizabeth Seton Roadrunners and the DeMatha Stags, winners of the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC).

"It was a pleasure and great honor to have worked with Abe Pollin. We're particularly pleased that the Verizon Center will host this year's event," said Mayor Fenty. "The Abe Pollin Title Games recognizes the exceptional talent of our youth, and fittingly recalls the legacy of Abe Pollin and his contribution to the revitalization of downtown DC."

"It took a lot of sweat equity to overcome both financial and logistical hurdles to bring the games to the floor of the Verizon Center," said District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) Chancellor Michelle Rhee. "It is very rewarding to see these young people recognized so appropriately for their achievements."

DC Public Schools compete in the DCIAA league in basketball, baseball, cross country, football, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis and track and field. WCAC is a high school athletic league for boys, girls and co-ed Catholic high schools located in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. The City Title Games have been a longtime Washington tradition since 1957, when the first game was played between Cardoza High School and Gonzaga High School.

"OCT looks forward to working with DCPS and expanding DKN's platform to provide a wide variety of relevant programming to the community at-large," said OCT Director Eric E. Richardson. "Having the Able Pollin Title broadcast on DKN is going to bring the excitement of this world-class tournament to a whole new audience."
