Knowledge Network (DKN) To Air Turkey Bowl
Washington, DC - The District
Knowledge Network (DKN) will televise the District of Columbia Interscholastic
Athletic Association's (DCIAA) Thanksgiving Day Turkey Bowl football championship
game on DKN on Friday, November 26 at 7pm and again on both Saturday, November
27 and Sunday, November 28 at noon. Featuring a matchup between the Dunbar Crimson
Tide and the H.D. Woodson Warriors, DCIAA's annual Turkey Bowl guarantees a robust,
varsity level clash between the best of District of Columbia Public Schools' (DCPS)
emerging young talent. "DKN televised
the Abe Pollin City Title Games to our viewers this past March," noted OCT
Director Eric E. Richardson. "As we present our premier telecast of the Turkey
Bowl on DKN, it gives us all great pleasure at OCT to continue to expand our offering
of world-class, championship competition - and further examples of personal excellence
found here in the District - to our audience both young and mature." "These
two competing teams are comprised of young men who have wholeheartedly dedicated
themselves to personal development, concentration, attention, academics, nutrition,
physical fitness and teamwork," said DCPS Director of Athletics Marcus T.
Ellis. "These characteristics promote the nurturing of leadership skills
that will serve these adolescents well on their path to maturity and self-sufficiency." The
District of Columbia Interscholastic Athletic Association (DCIAA) is the public
high school athletic league in Washington, DC. The league was founded in 1990.
DCPS competes in the DCIAA league in baseball, basketball, cross country, football,
soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis and track and field. The Thanksgiving
Day Turkey Bowl has been a longtime Washington tradition since 1969, when the
first game was played between Coolidge H.S. and McKinley Technical H.S. ### The
District Knowledge Network (DKN) is the public education channel of the District
of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS). DKN is operated by the DC Office of Cable Television
and supported by DCPS and the Office of the State Superintendent of Education
(OSSE). DKN is designed to provide innovative resources and support to students,
